The discussion is aimed to initiate a&nbsp;&nbsp;dialogue between practitioners, academics and researchers within the field.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cDesign is an agent for sustainable solutions created for people and supporting the planet on which we rely\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cDesign expresses culture. Designers have a particularly potent role in making, protecting, nourishing, enhancing and celebrating cultural heritage and diversity in the face of globalization.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Main questions are extracted from the Design Declaration<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Are we meeting the challenge to produce sustainable solutions?&nbsp;<\/li><li>What is a \u2019sustainable solution\u2019 in our context?&nbsp;<\/li><li>How does culture influence manifest itself in design?&nbsp;<\/li><li>What should the role of culture be in design?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The session recording will be included in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/interactiondesignday.org\/\">World Interaction Design Day&nbsp;2020<\/a>&nbsp;programme, and open to participants of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/innovationsummit.co.za\/\">South African Innovation Summit 2020<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facilitated by:&nbsp;<\/strong>Vikki Eriksson (CPUT)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>22 September 2020, 3:30 \u2013 5pm The Cape Town PRE discussion will explore the 2017&nbsp;Design Declaration&nbsp;through the lens of Culture and Sustainability.
